Why use for periodontal diseases
Research studies have shown that Chewable Probiotics containing L salivarius and L plantarum can help defeat cavities, tooth decay and gum disease (gingivitis). Read our booklet “Chewable Probiotics”.
APD-30 Chewable Probiotics
This formula is a high-potency probiotic supplement formulated to support your oral health, gastrointestinal tract, and the immune system of your children aged three years and older.
Supportive for oral health: Your intestinal tract begins in the mouth. Many active species of damaging bacteria inhabit the mouth and travel down to your stomach and disrupt the healthy function of your digestive system. ProDermix® APD-30 Chewable Probiotics provides Lactobacillus species that normally reside in the oral cavity and help antagonize various bacteria and pathogens, especially oral pathogens associated with cavities and gingivitis.
In addition, they populate your healthy microflora with active probiotic species from your mouth and then support your digestion, energy and immune system.
*Clinical trials have shown that Lactobacillus Salivarius and Lactobacilus Plantarum significantly reduces oral bacteria, plaque and gingivitis. Lactobacillus Rhamnosus and Lactobacillus Paracasei have performed similar functions in preliminary tests. Additionally Lactobacillus Rhamnosus and Lactobacillus Paracasei have shown that they lower the risk of atopic dermatitis and eczema in early childhood.
All of the above strains are in the ProDermix® APD-30 blend.

Chewables for children: The maturity of the immune system is normally dependent upon development of a healthy balance of bacterial microorganisms in the digestive tract. Children in their early years of childhood need a lot of support to fully develop their immune system which relies heavily on the function of their probiotic flora.
The healthy balance of their good bacteria can easily be disturbed by infectious microbes carried by children with contagious ailments in playgroup and daycare center environments. Allergens in foods, chemical toxins, and overuse of antibiotics also disrupt the healthy balance of bacteria.
ProDermix® APD-30 Chewable Probiotics contains select probiotics to maintain a normal balance of healthful microorganisms of microflora to support the probiotics of the oral cavity, digestive tract and healthy immune system function.
Chewables for Adults and Children: `ProDermix® APD-30 Chewable Probiotics can be used on a daily basis by children over the age of two and is particularly suitable for children with celiac disease (“leaky gut”), food allergies and eczema. ProDermix® APD-30 Chewable Probiotics is also suitable for adults who may prefer a chewable tablet. Adults and children, who may have difficulty swallowing capsules, can benefit from ProDermix® APD-30 Chewable Probiotics to enhance their immune system and boost their energy.

How Do Chewable Probiotics Perform?
When you chew a probiotic tablet or lozenge, the freeze dried probiotics get released from the tablet matrix. Studies suggest that the salivary glands located beneath the tongue excrete enzymes which may help rehydrate the microflora while it travels down the esophagus into the stomach. Some probably rehydrate and reproduce in the mouth. Thus providing additional strength and potency to battle the pathogens. The remainder are just swallowed.
Studies have been performed whereas certain strains of probiotics when mixed into yogurt have been found to be hosted in the saliva up to several weeks after consumption. Thus, the oral benefits of chewable probiotics are quite significant
Chewables vs. capsules:
Chewable probiotics consumed orally have additional benefits over capsules taken with water. The intestinal tract begins at the mouth. Bad breath, oral bacteria, cavities of the teeth and gingivitis are oral ailments which are addressed by chewables.
However, the full potency of the probiotics might be somewhat compromised by the time it reaches the small intestines. Capsules may offer stronger potency for digestive symptoms and gastrointestinal function. Capsules that begin their performance after bypassing the stomach acidity could possibly offer better overall performance for the intestinal tract.
On the other hand, bacteria residing in the mouth travel down the esophagus to the stomach and create a negative imbalance in the gastrointestinal digestive tract if the microbial pathogens are not deterred at their point of inception. Thus, an oral chewable probiotic is very important.
Lactobacillus acidophilus is perhaps the most widely known probiotic and has been researched for well over 30 years. Lactobacillus acidophilus produces enzymes that aid in digestion, enhance immunity, reduce the activity of microbial (bacterial) enzymes implicated in colonic carcinogenic pathogens, and antagonize a variety of pathogenic organisms including E. coli, H. pylori and S. aureus. Lactobacillus acidophilus reduces flatulence (gassiness), retards colonic transit time (diarrhea), and relieves abdominal bloating associated with irritable bowel syndrome. Studies have shown that lactobacillus acidophilus may reduce cholesterol levels and glucose in diabetics.
Lactobacillus paracasei is a hardy, acid-tolerant microorganism that survives passage through the intestinal tract and promotes growth of other beneficial lactobacillus species. Lactobacillus paracasei is antagonistic (combative) to a variety of intestinal pathogens such as C. difficile, E. coli, H. pylori, S. aureus, and various Salmonella species. Lactobacillus paracasei is a prominent resident of the oral cavity.
Studies indicate that lactobacillus paracasei produces bacteriocins (bacteria killers) that lead to pathogen death (death of bacteria).
Lactobacillus plantarum naturally inhabits a variety of environmental niches including the oral cavity and intestinal tract where it displays excellent mucosal adherence (adherence to the intestinal wall). Lactobacillus plantarum has been found to antagonize C. difficile, E. coli, H. pylori, salmonella, and oral and intestinal yeast pathogens.
The capacity of lactobacillus plantarum to improve oral health was demonstrated in a study comparing the application of lactobacillus plantarum to the oral cavities of 44 critically ill hospital patients.
Lactobacillus rhamnosus is the most intensively studied of all probiotics. This organism survives passage through the intestinal tract and displays excellent adherence to the intestinal wall of the large intestines. Studies show lactobacillus rhamnosus also inhibits the growth of at least six oral pathogens and confers significant protection against the development of dental cavities. In one clinical trial, the effects of normal milk and milk fermented with lactobacillus rhamnosus was evaluated for its effect on the oral health of 594 children. After seven months, a highly significant reduction in the incidence of dental cavities was found among the children consuming the lactobacillus rhamnosus milk compared to those consuming regular milk.
Lactobacillus salivarius is a resident of the intestinal tract with good survival and adherence characteristics. It secretes several antimicrobial agents including bacteriocin and hydrogen peroxide, and antagonizes a number of intestinal pathogens including C. difficile, E. coli, H. pylori, Listeria and Salmonella. Research indicates that lactobacillus salivarius is one of the most important probiotics for oral health. In addition, they demonstrate potent antimicrobial activity against many oral pathogens. Three separate clinical trials have found supplementation with lactobacillus salivarius significantly reduces the risk of developing periodontal disease.
